The Decade of Initiatives

For over a decade, Africa has seen wave after wave of programmes aimed at getting more women into high-paying careers. The initiatives exist. The conversations have happened. The research is thorough, the commitments have been made publicly and repeatedly, and the funding has moved.
So why hasn't the number changed?
The Decade is a documentary that takes that question seriously — not as a provocation, but as a genuine investigation. Because the people who designed these programmes were not negligent. The women who participated were not passive. Something else is happening, and it is happening somewhere between the theory of change and the lived experience of the people the theory was built for.
We will go looking for that gap. Not to assign blame. Not to produce another report recommending more of the same. But to build a film honest enough to show what a decade of effort looks like when the outcomes don't match the ambition — and clear-eyed enough to ask what a different decade might require.
This is a film for the organisations still doing this work. For the women still waiting for it to reach them. And for anyone willing to sit with the discomfort of asking whether the tools we have been using are equal to the problem we are trying to solve.
